Photo by Madeleine Penfold. Image description: Jess, a white woman with red hair, sits in front of a check tile wall in green and white. She wears a lime green suit and a black top, with white trainers. She is looking directly at the camera and smiling slightly. This image was taken in her favourite Queer bar, CAMP in Margate.

Jess Edwards is an award-winning director, writer and creative. She has over a decade's experience directing theatre and has a number of writing projects in development for TV and film. Next, she is directing Georgie Dettmer's Are You Watching? at the Royal Court.

Jess is a Queer artist - and this runs through all her work. Her shows are a real party - iconoclastic, pop-tastic and fun. She makes work that is political and intersectional, with an ultimate message of hope.

Care and compassion are at the centre of her process and she works with the nervous system in her directing work. A qualified yoga instructor, physicality and embodied emotion is a key aspect of her practice. She also occasionally teaches and lectures on creativity, writing at theatre - most recently at LAMDA, CSSD and Oxford University.
